Spine, Head and Nervous System
Spinal Column:
- Spinal column (vertebral column) is made up of 33 bones called vertebrae
- Vertebrae are divided into 5 groups
- Seven cervical vertebrae in the neck
- Twelve thoracic vertebrae in the chest area
- Five lumbar vertebrae in the mid to lower back
- Five sacral vertebrae in the lower back (these are fused in adults)
- Four coccygeal vertebrae also known as the coccyx or tail bone (these are fused)
